Performer Spotlight: Blasphemet Brings Undead Glam to Pride Corpus Christi

In a community rich with creativity, few performers embody the boundary-pushing spirit of Pride Month quite like Blasphemet. A self-described alt drag king with a love for the macabre, Blasphemet is a proud member of both Agents of Chaos and Dumpster Fire Productions, collectives known for pushing the local drag scene into bold new territory. With each performance, Blasphemet challenges the expected and creates space for the weird, the wild, and the wonderfully unsettling.

“I’ve always been drawn to the darker side of storytelling,” Blasphemet shares. “Merging horror and fantasy with drag wasn’t even a question for me. Sometimes I pick characters I love; other times, it’s just a cursed idea that won’t leave my brain. Either way, I love twisting concepts to reflect my own campy inner world.”

Blasphemet’s aesthetic is both cinematic and raw—drawing from gothic horror, cabaret, and sketchbook visions that blur the line between fine art and fever dream. “As a concept artist and drag king, I want to look like I just crawled out of one of my own dark fantasy paintings,” they say. “Anytime I take on a new project, I ask: What would make the audience scream?

Blasphemet’s journey into drag began in 2018 through the Coastal Bend Pride Center’s youth group, with their first performance at the Texas Riviera Empire Coronation. “I was shy and reserved growing up, but the moment I hit the stage something clicked,” they recall. “Drag became a way to express myself and find my voice. I’ll always be grateful to the people who made space for the weird kids like me.”

This upcoming October, Blasphemet returns to the Pride Corpus Christi Block Party stage, promising a performance that blends creative growth with homage. “Without giving too much away,” they tease, “expect undead glam-rock with a whole lot of bite. I’m using this set to show how far I’ve come and to honor one of my favorite queer horror icons.”

Their work speaks to a larger movement within the drag world—one that values experimentation and inclusivity. “Alternative drag is about subverting expectations,” they say. “We’re finally seeing more appreciation for performers who don’t fit the mainstream mold. I’d love to see more stages make room for kings, creatures, and everyone in between. Drag should always be a safe space for all.”

That ethos came to life in one of Blasphemet’s most defining moments: a performance at Black Lagoon, where they debuted a jester look built entirely from upcycled materials. “It was chaotic, theatrical, and the most ‘me’ I’ve ever felt on stage,” they reflect. “That night taught me that there’s real power in embracing the mess.”

When asked what message they hope audiences take away, Blasphemet answers with the sincerity of someone who’s fought to claim their place in the world:

“I want people to walk away feeling like there’s space for them—especially if they’ve never seen themselves reflected in drag before. Drag gave me a voice when I felt invisible. Now I use it to scream on behalf of the ghoulies like myself.”
