Support the Coastal Bend Pride Center by participating in its 2nd annual Rainbow Run/Walk 5K! This event will take place at 7 a.m. at Cole Park Saturday, June 1. Online registration is now open! ❤️

Online ticket sales close at 5 p.m. on May 31. Tickets will be available for purchase in person at the event at 6 a.m., one hour prior to the race start time. 🧡

Tickets are $25 for entry into the race, and $40 for entry into the race and a Rainbow Run/Walk T-shirt. T-shirt tickets will close on May 27 in order to get the shirts ordered on time. Extra t-shirts will be sold at the event. 💛

Wear your flashiest rainbow attire for the run! The Pride Center wants to celebrate Pride Month by showing our rainbow colors as we run! All proceeds for this event will directly fund the Coastal Bend Pride Center. 💚

Packet pickup will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Coastal Bend Pride Center on May 31. 💙

While last night was a solemn evening, paying respect to Nex Benedict in Corpus Christi was a beautiful way for our community to unite.

Pride Corpus Christi is thankful the community showed up and spoke their truths, shared their feelings and opened up about their frustration.

About the vigil, our president, Jonathan Swindle, said, “One person said it really gave them hope when they had not felt the feeling in a long time.”

We had many speakers last night, and we want to thank them all for speaking. We also had Jim Klein and Sylvia Campos in attendance, which is great to have representation for our city council during a time where our community was grieving the loss of such a young and innocent person.

Recently, a tragic event took the life of 16-year-old Nex Benedict, a nonbinary youth from Oklahoma, who was brutally assaulted in a high school bathroom at Owasso High School. Nex succumbed to their injuries and passed away the following day, leaving the community and the nation in mourning. This senseless act of violence is not only a profound loss but a stark reminder of the dangers that hate and intolerance pose to our LGBTQ+ youth.

Further compounding this tragedy is the involvement of the “Libs of TikTok” account (run by Chaya Raichik), which had targeted Owasso High School prior to this incident. The account’s far-right and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric has contributed to a climate of hostility and fear, underscoring the urgent need for us to stand in solidarity and advocate for a world where love and acceptance prevail over hate.

In response to this heart-wrenching event, we are organizing a vigil this Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church to honor Nex’s memory, offer support to those grieving, and take a stand against the far-right narrative that seeks to divide us.

Together, we can send a message of love, hope, and unity. If you are able, we invite you to join in this solemn occasion, to comfort one another, and to reaffirm our dedication to a future where every individual can live authentically and free from fear.

Last night was a blast at our first Pride Trivia Night!

We had eight teams (Daughters of Bilitis, Jam, The Glory Hoes, House of Celebutante, Frog & Toad, The Femme Fatales, The Incorrigible Sodomites, and The Chipmunks) all competing to place first, second, or third place.

In the end, The Chipmunks came in third, The Glory Hoes in second and The Incorrigible Sodomites took home the grand prize.

We want to give another grateful thank you to all the businesses that donated prizes for this fun event. And we will host another one in the coming months!

We also announced a special surprise to those in attendance last night, and we will make a formal announcement soon 😉

Next week on Tuesday the 20th, we will host our inaugural Pride Trivia Night at Alamo Drafthouse!

We reached out to several local businesses and are very honored to announce our first, second and third place prizes all have a worth of $1,250!

We want to give a huge shoutout to these local businesses and thank them for their generosity.

We hope you all will be in attendance next week at 7 p.m. for the fun! Remember, it’s a free event and there will be plenty of food and drinks you can purchase at the theater.

Our Vice President, Robert Kymes, was able to attend the annual @usaprides conference in Las Vegas over the weekend.

“There were so many Prides represented at USAP and it was incredible to network with them and share ideas on activism, hear their struggles with homophobia and how they address it, and celebrate their amazing successes at their events and Pride parades of all sizes,” Robert said. “Thank you to the USAP board for making this possible by awarding me a scholarship to attend!”

Robert took a lot of notes from the conference and has shared with the rest of the board. We will be implanting what he learned within Pride Corpus Christi and can’t wait to reach a larger audience while remaining loyal to you all!

Are you caught up on your LGBTQIA+ history and trivia?

We are going to put you to the test next month at Alamo Drafthouse for our inaugural Pride Trivia Night!

Starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, groups of two to five people will compete in rounds full of pride trivia to win. The top three teams will receive prizes from local Corpus Christi businesses.

There is no need for signing up beforehand, as we will do that at the event and sort people in groups if there are some solos. As well, no fees to participate but we will have a donation station for those wanting to help out Pride Corpus Christi’s future events.

World AIDS Day has been observed on December 1 every year since 1988 and serves as a reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma. It’s an opportunity to honor those we have lost, and is also a rallying cry to commit to working toward a day when HIV is no longer a public health threat.

Today, reiterated by new guidance from the World Health Organization, we know that Undetectable = Unstransmittable which equals Zero Risk. Meaning, people diagnosed with HIV, who remain on proper and consistent medication and treatment to keep the HIV virus down to an undetectable level on lab tests, cannot transmit the virus and as a result, carry zero risk of spreading the virus to others.

There are numerous ways to get involved with World AIDS Day this year, by learning the facts and putting the knowledge into action. Another way to show support for those living with HIV/AIDS is by wearing the signature red ribbon today ♥️

$Transgender Day of Remembrance is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28, 1998, launched the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco vigil the following year. These 26 names are only a fraction of our transgender family that were identified and reported this year in the United States. The event provides a forum for transgender communities and allies to raise awareness of the threat of violence faced by gender variant people and the persistence of prejudice felt by the transgender community. On every continent, transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons confront violence, harassment, and discrimination simply based on their gender identity or expression. Transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons have always been a part of our families, cultures, and nations. As we mourn the transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons who have paid the ultimate price for others’ hatred, we honor their memory by continuing the fight for a world free of transphobic and gender-based violence and discrimination.
