We are excited to announce the launch of “Our Community Lives,” an innovative digital timeline dedicated to capturing and sharing the rich history of the LGBTQIA+ community in Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas. This project is an initiative from Pride Corpus Christi, aiming to document and celebrate our vibrant community’s journey from 1975 to today.

Why “Our Community Lives”?

Our journey as a community has been filled with resilience, joy, challenges, and triumphs. Yet, so much of our history remains untold. “Our Community Lives” seeks to fill this gap by creating an accessible and engaging digital archive where stories, events, and milestones are preserved and shared with everyone.

What We Have So Far

Thanks to contributions from the Caller Times and local community figures, we have gathered an extensive collection of historical information spanning nearly five decades. These records provide a valuable glimpse into our community’s past, showcasing pivotal moments and everyday life experiences that have shaped who we are today.

Your Story Matters

However, our journey is far from complete. The richness of our history lies in the diversity of our experiences, and we need your help to tell a more comprehensive story. While we welcome all contributions, we are particularly interested in:

The Loving Spoon: Help us try to capture the story of this incredible, yet under the public radar, community service that helped feed many affected with HIV/AIDS.
Texas Riviera Empire: Help us give back and document the legacy and significance of this influential organization that has contributed to our community for over 35 years.
The Passage: Provide insights and stories about this key landmark in our community’s history. The Passage was a pivotal service for those affected by HIV/AIDS looking for a place to pass peacefully.
Local LGBTQIA+ Bar/Club History: Bars and clubs have always been more than just entertainment venues—they are safe havens and cultural hubs. Share your stories and experiences from these cherished spaces over the decades.
