HIV is not a crime — it’s a public health issue. Today is a day to fight for justice and understanding.

February 28 is HIV is Not a Crime Awareness Day, which is an opportunity to amplify the voices of those who have been criminalized based on their HIV status.

In more than 30 states, people are being imprisoned due to their HIV status. HIV criminalization laws consist of using a person’s positive HIV status in a criminal prosecution, increasing charges or punishments because the person has HIV.

Tennessee, Louisiana, Ohio and South Dakota and also the only four states where those convicted of an HIV crime may not only face prison time, but are required to join a sex offender registry.

These laws are rooted in fear and misinformation. Let’s work together to create a world where everyone has access to the care and support they need. 💚❤️

While we may not have known Sam personally, our community is able to feel sorrow and anger for his loss.

For those that don’t know, Sam Nordquist was a trans man who was brutally tortured for days. He was subjected to prolonged physical and psychological abuse by five people in upstate New York.

His body was found last week and the five suspects were arrested last Friday.

With our current administration being a hateful spirit of malice and destruction, we need to remember to stand together and support our LGBTQIA+ community — especially our trans members.

Rest in power, Sam 💚

A few of our board members were able to attend the @usaprides National Convention in Atlanta recently.

They were able to participate in trainings, discussions, and programs to help our nonprofit grow and be prepared for any injustice our community may face.

They will be discussing with the rest of the board about what they’ve learned and how we can implement it in the future.

We’re looking forward to continue to provide resources, information, and more to the Coastal Bend’s LGBTQIA+ community. 💚

Today is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, which was first observed in 1999. It is a day to highlight the progress made in HIV prevention and treatment, while also acknowledging the ongoing challenges and disparities that persist.

Today is an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to come together to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, promote testing and prevention, and advocate for policies that address the needs of Black people living with or at risk for HIV.

Let’s break the stigma — get tested and know your status!

Our first Pride Night Out at Hidden Door was great, but we know some people were unable to join. This month, we will have it at @retro_corpus on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m.

We would love to see you all come and enjoy food, drinks (for those 21+), video games, and the company of your LGBTQIA+ community! Bring your families, friends, partner(s), or just yourself and get to mingle and feel welcomed!

This month is going to be really rocky for our community. In fact, the next four years will be.

We think it’s best to have a solidarity meeting/mixer where our community can come together with food and drinks, and talk about what they need or vent their dilemmas.

This Pride Night Out will start at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at @thehiddendoorcc.

This evening is just about trying to come together as a community and stay strong.

We had fun events, amazing performances, and created new memories we will always cherish. And we couldn’t have done that with you all.

We spent nine hours yesterday discussing how this year went, how we want next year to go and goals we want to meet.

With our new board members, more doors of opportunity opened for our LGBTQIA+ community and we are excited to see how that can help us — especially with the next four years of uncertainty.

But we’re keeping our spirits up and making sure your safety and well-being are always at the top of our priorities. We can’t wait to let you know what we have planned for 2025 🎉

Did you know that Corpus Christi is currently having a runoff election?

Six candidates are on the ballot in round two of the city election to determine who will represent District 1 and District 4 on the City Council, and who will be mayor of Corpus Christi.

Early voting is happening now through Dec. 10th, and Election Day is Saturday, Dec. 14th. We strongly encourage everyone to take part in voting and make your voice heard.

As of Wednesday, only 11% of the vote is by those under the age of 50. According to data from the Pew Research Center, the Boomer generation historically votes in a less favorable way for the LGBTQIA+ community.

We cannot continue to sit by quietly while we face growing discrimination by individuals supported by Michael Hunter in our own back yard.

Last night was a sentimental gathering for our LGBTQIA+ community to honor Transgender Day of Remembrance 🕯️

We are deeply grateful for being presented a Certificate of Appreciation for our support and services we provide to the transgender community here. It is something we will never stop fighting for.

Everyone in our LGBTQIA+ community needs protection more than ever right now, so continue to band together and hold each other up.

$Transgender Day of Remembrance is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28, 1998, launched the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco vigil the following year. These 26 names are only a fraction of our transgender family that were identified and reported this year in the United States. The event provides a forum for transgender communities and allies to raise awareness of the threat of violence faced by gender variant people and the persistence of prejudice felt by the transgender community. Join us, Corpus Christi LGBT, Trans Justice Funding Project, and the Coastal Bend Trans Alliance at the 9th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance Memorial and Vigil Wednesday, Nov. 20. at Grace Church Corpus Christi at 6301 Yorktown Blvd. Service begins at 7 p.m. with keynote speakers, a live vocalist, testimonials, and community awards.🕯️🏳️‍⚧️$
