Harbor Bridge Will Be Rainbow for PRIDE Week
May 31, 2019(CORPUS CHRISTI) –The iconic Harbor Bridge will be lighted in rainbow colors from June 3-9, 2019, to commemorate PRIDE Week 2019.
The City of Corpus Christi, which oversees the programming of the Harbor Bridge lights, approved on March 12 the request of the Mosaic Project of South Texas, the non-profit organization which puts on the annual PRIDE Week events. The cost to re-program the bridge lighting for PRIDE Week was sponsored by local advertising agency Snyder+Associates. No taxpayer funds were used.
“The Harbor Bridge lighting in rainbow colors sends a very strong signal to the LGBTQIA+ community of the importance of PRIDE Week,” said Bill Hoelscher, President of the Mosaic Project of South Texas. “Four years ago following the horrific Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting, the Harbor Bridge was lighted in rainbow colors. It demonstrated the Corpus Christi community’s understanding and compassion and gave the LGBTQIA+ community hope for a brighter, more tolerant future.”
According to the City’s application, the Harbor Bridge lighting will occur during PRIDE Week nightly starting approximately 15 minutes before sunset and remain on until midnight and then will turn on again approximately 4:00 a.m. and remain on until 15 minutes before sunrise.
Under the umbrella of The Mosaic Project of South Texas – a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization – PRIDE Corpus Christi, is an annual festival focused on commemorating, educating, and celebrating LGBTQIA+ equality and human rights.
