Texas Riviera Empire Celebrates 37th Coronation Ceremony and Honors Community Leaders
May 05, 2025This past weekend, Pride Corpus Christi was honored to attend the Texas Riviera Empire‘s grand Coronation Ceremony, marking the transition from the 36th reign of Emperor Andrew Wilcox and Empress Leona Lane to the newly crowned 37th Emperors Fidel Morin and Raymond Sauceda. The event celebrated the tremendous contributions and legacy of Andrew and Leona’s reign, highlighting their dedication and community impact.
The Texas Riviera Empire (TRE), founded in 1986, is part of the International Court System (ICS), one of the oldest and largest LGBTQIA+ organizations globally, established in 1965 by José Sarria in San Francisco. TRE itself has a rich history spanning several decades in South Texas, promoting unity, fundraising, and community support through charitable events, drag performances, and social outreach.
Notably, Bill Williams, a valued board member of Pride Corpus Christi and manager of the Hidden Door, also serves as the President of the Texas Riviera Empire, further strengthening the partnership and collaboration between our organizations.
Each year, TRE hosts its coronation, a vibrant and prestigious event attended by members of the LGBTQIA+ community, local organizations, and allies from across Texas and beyond. This annual ceremony celebrates the accomplishments of the reigning Emperor and Empress and welcomes new leaders to carry forward the tradition of service, advocacy, and community engagement.
Pride Corpus Christi is honored and grateful to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries of TRE’s fundraising efforts this year. This generous recognition underscores the partnership between our organizations and our shared commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community in the Coastal Bend.
Additionally, Leona honored Jonathan Swindle, Pride Corpus Christi Board President, with the prestigious White Rose of FriendshipAward, given to recognize allies and special friends who have significantly contributed to the community. This recognition further highlights the close and supportive relationship between our organizations.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Emperor Andrew Wilcox and Empress Leona Lane for their remarkable and successful reign. Their leadership, passion, and dedication have left an enduring mark, positively influencing countless lives and enhancing the community’s strength and unity.
As we look forward, Pride Corpus Christi eagerly anticipates continuing this cherished relationship with the Texas Riviera Empire, united in purpose and action for the betterment of our vibrant community.
