By us joining together and speaking out against book banning at our public libraries, we’re making a difference!

More people showed up in support of us yesterday compared to those using hate speech to belittle our community.

One speaker even showed the City Council that more than 30 people have spoken out against book bans while six spoke for it. If that’s not clear enough for them, we will continue to speak at every meeting until it is.

We want to thank everyone who has been showing up with us, but the fight is still ongoing. If you’re able to, please join us at the next city council meeting Tuesday, July 30 and at the next library board meeting Tuesday, Aug. 6. Remember to sign up for public comment before 11:30 a.m. the day of the city council meeting.

Our battle for equality never ends, and we are reminded of that constantly.

It has come to our understanding that Citizens Defending Freedom will be at tomorrow’s city council meeting trying to diminish us.

While it is short notice, we hope that you will be able to attend and speak out with us. If you do plan on attending, be sure to register to speak during public comment before 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, July 23). You can do that by visiting rb.gy/o2bqtg.

Again, we will not have our voices silenced and we will not give into fear and hate.

Our voices outweighed the hate and close-mindedness yesterday during the City Council meeting.

The public comment section of the meeting proved how loud we can be if our voices try to get stifled. We did have three people who voiced hate, but we’re positive our message came across more.

Our Vice President was at yesterday’s Library Board meeting and said he saw more people from Moms for Liberty and Citizens Defending Freedom than ever before.

He said, “It was awful hearing their words of anger, miseducation, and religious misguidance. They out spoke and outnumbered our LGBTQIA+ supporters today.”

What do we need you to do? Attend the City Council meeting Tuesday, July 16 and make your voice heard in public comment. Make it known that DEI must remain in place in public entities.

We will not have our voices and stories silenced.

While adversity seems to never end, neither do we.

At last month’s Library Board meeting, we were able to help not have any books removed or restricted because of our voices. But now with a new subcommittee, we have to unite again to make our voices heard.

Join us tomorrow at La Retama at 10:30 a.m. to provide a public comment and join us at the next City Council meeting on July 16 at 12 p.m. to do the same.

Together, our love and passion are stronger than other’s fear and hate.

Also known as the Stonewall Uprising, the Stonewall Riots began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City.

The raid ignited a riot among bar patrons and residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside the bar on Christopher Street, in neighboring streets and in nearby Christopher Park.

These riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.

While we’re still marching for a better future for us and the incoming generation of LGBTQIA+ people, we need to always remember how far we’ve come. Remember all the strong people who started this for us and let’s continue their mission in securing equality for every member of our community. 🌈

Also known as Equality Day, June 26 is a momentous day for the LGBTQIA+ community. 🌈

Nine years ago today, same-sex marriage was declared legal in the United States. And since then, countless couples have made the giant step to bind their relationship through the strongest form of commitment: marriage. 💍

While some may not have marriage on their minds or think the act is not for them, that’s completely fine too! The important thing is the LGBTQIA+ community has the option to marry the person they love the most. 💙

As most know, we have started our own radio station for all things LGBTQIA+ and we are currently live online!

We are in the midst of getting our antenna set up to be on airwaves, but during the meantime we are looking for local musicians to join us!

If you always dreamt about having your songs on the radio for all to hear, we want to help you fulfill that dream! We are also accepting explicit and radio edit versions of songs for those who might have some tasteful language.

Last night was so much fun! 🌈

We held our first Pride Lotería Night at The Hidden Door and had the wonderful Desiree Brooks host the 10 rounds! 👑

Congrats to all the winners who took home prizes! We want to give an extra special thank you @lavenderandlee, @2020_vintage, @islanddayspa.padreisland, @tmwildflowers and @thecoffeemugg_ for donating prizes! 🎁

Today, we remember the taken and survivors of the Pulse Nightclub shooting that happened eight years ago today. The shooting, which took place on “Latin Night” at the Orlando LGBTQIA+ nightclub, claimed the lives of 49 people and left 53 injured.

Not only was this one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history, it was also the deadliest single incidence of violence against LGBTQIA+ people in the U.S.

While this tragic incident happened almost a decade ago, our community is still constantly met with anger, confusion, fear, and violence. Pride Corpus Christi promises to provide security and protection at all of our events and remain strong through the adversity.

While we have our Pride Loteria event scheduled for this evening, please take time today to send prayers, condolences, good vibes, or positive thoughts to the survivors and victims’ families and loved ones.
