As we continue to face challenging times, understanding your rights is more essential than ever. This workshop is designed to educate and empower our community in the face of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Texas.

About the Workshop: Returning after a successful session last year, the “Know Your Rights” workshop is part of our ongoing effort to keep the community informed and resilient. This event will cover:

  • The current state of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Texas.
  • How to protect yourself and your rights under challenging legal circumstances.
  • Identifying allies and understanding the political landscape in this pivotal election year.

Why Attend? This workshop is not just about learning what rights you have but also about building a strong, informed community that can stand together against discrimination and injustice. As we head into an election year, it’s vital to know which candidates are true allies of the LGBTQ+ community and which are not. Being informed can help safeguard our community from risks that include violence and poverty.

Coastal Bend Pride Center

The Coastal Bend Pride Center is a cornerstone for the LGBTQIA+ community in the Corpus Christi area and beyond, offering an inclusive safe space and a variety of crucial services. Established as the first and only LGBTQIA+ community center south of San Antonio, the Pride Center extends its reach to 12 counties within the Coastal Bend region. It focuses on nurturing a supportive environment through its social and support groups tailored to diverse needs, including those of youth, families, and the wider LGBTQIA+ population.

The Center’s dedication to mental health is evident in its counseling services, which cover a spectrum from individual to family therapy. They have a commitment to supporting the community's well-being, both mental and physical, with health screenings, HIV/STD prevention and education, and offering connections to LGBTQIA+-friendly healthcare providers.

Education and empowerment are also key missions of the Pride Center. They provide educational resources and training, aiming to increase LGBTQIA+ cultural competency and history awareness. The Pride Center actively hosts and organizes community events and programming to foster learning, networking, and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and well-being.

Furthermore, the Pride Center's involvement goes beyond providing services. They engage in community outreach and education to the general public and health providers, ensuring a broader impact for their advocacy and support initiatives.
