The Haus of Glitter
About The Haus of Glitter
The Haus of Glitter is dedicated to shifting the energetic center of the universe toward care, healing, justice, and freedom. Through our local, national and internationally touring artistic practice, we strive to embody ancestral liberation, healing, and love in every step + every breath. Our Dance Company is committed to preserving the histories, cultures, and pedagogies of Global & Afro-Latin Diasporic dance, music, culture and pedagogies using art as a tool for truth-telling, reimagining public spaces, and collective transformation. Our Performance Lab fosters multidisciplinary collaboration + social practice and our Preservation Society supports projects that conserve, uplift, archive and preserve underrepresented heritage spaces, historical facts & cultural lineages. Through immersive performance art, activism, and community engagement, we work to connect the individual human body to the collective human body, bringing movement beyond the stage and into the streets, homes, and institutions that shape our lived experience. Our care-centered practice aims to invite deep feeling, healing, and liberation. We don’t just want to exist. We want to live.
From Nov 2019 - Nov 2022, The Haus of Glitter lived in the historic former home of notorious slavery ship commander, Esek Hopkins, as a creative occupation + public protest + endurance-based performance piece aimed to embody a community-based process to research, re-interpret and re-imagine this racist national historic site with educational + wellness programming, community engagement, multidisciplinary art projects and the development of an activist dance opera, The Historical Fantasy of Esek Hopkins, which won New England Foundation for the Arts National Dance Award in 2022. Since then, The Haus of Glitter has been featured in Bloomberg, The Boston Globe, The Smithsonian National Museum for African American History & Culture, and have toured across New England, NYC, D.C., Chicago, New Orleans, South Texas, San Francisco, West Africa, Costa Rica, and Southeast Asia. Now, The Haus of Glitter is working with culture-bearers, artists, wellness advocates, community organizers, heritage + historic preservation practitioners to build national + international creative projects that build coalition to fan the flames of creative justice efforts across the globe.
