LARGEST EVER PRIDE EVENTS ON TAP FOR SATURDAY

The celebration of PRIDE Week 2019 in Corpus Christi will continue this weekend with the largest ever PRIDE Parade and Block Party ever held in Corpus Christi.

More than 50 entries with more than 500 floats, vehicles and marchers will join the mile-long PRIDE Parade along Shoreline Boulevard starting at 3:00 p.m. The Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Color Guard will lead the parade followed by Grand Marshal Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales. The parade ends at Water’s Edge Park. Spectators may view the PRIDE Parade along Shoreline Boulevard along the Seawall.

Starting at 1:00 p.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m., traffic along Shoreline Boulevard from Interstate 37 down to Coopers Alley will be closed. Drivers are advised to take Water Street as an alternative. Side streets will remain available and have traffic controlled by the Corpus Christi Police Department.

More than 50 vendors with food, drinks, arts and crafts, community and commercial services and businesses will gather on the Great Lawn at Water’s Edge Park for the PRIDE Block Party. Ten food trucks will be located on Park Avenue with a variety of favorite treats. A beer garden will offer Budweiser products for sale, including the limited edition PRIDE rainbow aluminum Bud Light bottles. Victory Pro Wrestling will thrill spectators with five exciting professional wrestling matches, including two championship bouts. The first-ever PRIDE of Texas Tag-Team championship and the first-ever PRIDE of Texas Heavyweight Championship will be decided in the ring. PRIDE Radio Sponsor Planet 102.3 will play today’s best hit music. Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation’s mobile clinic will be on-site providing high-quality services.

Sponsor Herrman and Herrman will have a photo booth to capture the memories of the PRIDE celebration. The PRIDE Block Party will end at 9:00 p.m. Spectators are advised the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Coastal Bend. The NWS website states: “Heat indices of 110 degrees and higher can be expected. Heat indices between 110 and 115 can be expected through the weekend. Reduce, eliminate, or reschedule strenuous activities to the coolest times of the day. If you must be outside, reduce your activities, and take frequent breaks preferably in an air-conditioned area. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquids, preferably water, even if you do not feel thirsty.”

During the Block Party, numerous vendors, along with the Mosaic Project of South Texas and the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, will offer free bottled water to keep attendees safe and well hydrated.

Apollo Towing has once again stepped up to protect drivers and is offering free rides to those who overindulge at PRIDE Corpus Christi events this week leaving no excuse to drink and drive. Apollo Towing will provide a free tow and ride for drivers on Saturday, June 8, following the Block Party.

Drivers in need of a ride on those two dates at those specific venues who live in Corpus Christi or Robstown can be picked up, free of charge, and have their car towed home.
