PRIDE Corpus Christi Announces 6th Annual PRIDE Week Celebration

PRIDE Corpus Christi, now in its sixth year, is excited to announce this year’s upcoming PRIDE Week celebration events in June and October. A total of 15 events are planned after two difficult years maintaining social distancing and masks to protect our fellow Texans. The events are designed indoors and outdoors to promote a fun, safe environment for our LGBTQIA+ community in the Coastal Bend with the help of affirming businesses and organizations.

PRIDE Week kicks off on June 3rd during the Downtown Management District’s Art Walk with a wonderfully curated Art Gallery by Joey Gonzalez exhibited downtown at PRODUCE®. This free event will showcase LGBTQIA+ artists and their unique works in a variety of mediums.

Also on June 3rd, to better help you prepare for the events ahead, LGBTQIA+ vendors will be taking over part of People’s St. with a market featuring handcrafted goods alongside the Downtown Management District‘s Artwalk Mural Festival; featuring food trucks and many other local vendors. Applications for vendors are now open until May 25th on the DMD’s website. Applicants MUST mention PRIDE in the notes to be included on People’s St. for our festivities.

Our good friends at the Coastal Bend PRIDE Center will be hosting their YNOT Youth Prom on June 4th. This prom is uniquely organized as a safe environment for all LGBTQIA+ teens and will be hosted at the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation’s community room on Holly St. Ticket sales are now available. $10 if purchased ahead of the event. $15 at the door.

We’ll be kicking off our PRIDE Week Celebration with a party at Corpus Christi’s oldest LGBT bar, The Hidden Door, on Staples St. beginning at 2pm with a tea dance, ‘Best PRIDE’ Costume Contest at 3:30, turkey legs and roasted corn at 4pm, an Underwear Fashion Show presented by OUCH Apparel of San Antonio at 5pm, Mr. Hidden Door Pride Contest at 6pm, Swimwear Fashion Show presented by Ouch Apparel at 7pm, a Ms. Hidden Door Pride Contest at 8pm, and a Drag Show featuring Victoria West and other performers at 8:30.

We’re bringing back a PRIDE Corpus Christi favorite with an Alamo Drafthouse Movie Night on June 6th. This year’s movie is cult classic “But I’m a Cheerleader” with Natasha Lyonne, RuPaul and many more! Tickets are now available for purchase.

The Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation will be hosting a free Poetry Night on June 7th.

The Coastal Bend PRIDE Center will be hosting their OUT Professionals Mixer at BUS downtown on June 8th beginning at 5:30 with light refreshments. This event is a great opportunity for all Corpus Christi LGBTQIA+ professionals and their allies to meet and greet around their respective careers. Join us after at 7pm for a diva performance at the BUS stage.

As a celebration first, for the lead feet and the thrill-seekers, PRIDE Corpus Christi is excited to work alongside In The Game for a PRIDE Day full of speed and entertainment at Funtrackers in Flour Bluff on June 9th. Wristbands are available for purchase.

Port Aransas Community Theatre (PACT) will be hosting a production of “The Laramie Project” opening on June 9th. More information and ticket sales may be found on the PACT website.

Live, Laugh, Love the night away with another 2019 PRIDE favorite, Comedy Night at the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation’s community room on June 10th; featuring LGBTQIA+ comedians Ruby Dickulous, Arielle Isaac Norman and Ky Krebs. Tickets are now available for purchase.

Bring your friendly pooches decked out in rainbows and pride for the free 2nd annual Pet Paw-rade at St. Paul UCC, June 11th, on Corpus Christi’s Southside. Join us Saturday morning at 10am for dog treats, free hot dogs and water, bouncy houses, friendly faces, and more while we parade our happy pets from St. Paul UCC to make smiles at nearby nursing facilities. Lineup starts at 10:30am for the Paw-rade and begins at 11am.

If that wasn’t enough celebration, we’re really looking forward to honoring our organization’s founding with a PRIDE Downtown Pub Crawl on June 11th, a throwback to the original PRIDE Downtown Corpus Christi. The pub crawl begins at 7pm with a downtown favorite, BUS, complete with PRIDE decor, a balloon arch and more. Our group will then proceed across the street to Rockits for ‘taste the rainbow’ shots, music by The Grooves and dollar pizza slices. At 8:45, we’ll begin making our way to House of Rock for a performance from Chain Links and additional food specials. An after party celebration is in the works at another downtown favorite.

The ISSG (Islander Spectrum of Sexuality and Gender) student organization at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi is hosting “Spectrums: Neurodiversity and the Queer Community” on June 17th at 2 PM on campus at the Lonestar Ballrooms in the University Center with PRIDE Corpus Christi. This is a free community panel open to the public with 7 speakers on the topic of neurodiversity, mental health, and how we can be better allies to each other. The 3 professionals on the panel are Dr. Jared Wiehe (advisor to the ISSG, professor of English and Women and Gender Studies), Dr. Briana Sacco (adolescent and child psychologist for Driscoll Children’s Hospital), and Alison Marks (psychologist for TAMUCC).

Last, but not least, for our sports fans, the Corpus Christi Hooks will be hosting PRIDE Night with their $3 off food and drink offered at the ballpark deal on June 23rd. Join us as we sit together in support of our local baseball team, parade PRIDE flags pre-game, and cheer on a Corpus Christi win.  Tickets are now on sale.

With more details to come, PRIDE Corpus Christi is excited to announce its Block Party event on October 8th at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History and a Family Fun Day on October 22nd at St. Paul UCC. With the help of our sponsors, more information is to come on our PRIDE Parade celebration.

Make certain to stay tuned by following our Facebook and Instagram as additional details arise for PRIDE Corpus Christi 2022.

I believe the family fun day at St Pauls is Saturday 10/23 not 10/22.

Could you please post age limits on the events. I know those at bars are 21+ but what about everything else?

Hi Brenda, the art gallery and vendor market are both open to the public without age restriction. Our PRIDE Day at Funtrackers and the Pet Paw-rade are designed to be family friendly and are open to all ages. YNOT Prom is 13-18 only. The Movie night event is open to all but focused on 18+. Comedy Night is 18+. Poetry Night does not have an age restriction but 18+ or parent guardian in attendance is advised. Our pub crawl event is 21+. The Hidden Door kick off and OUT Professionals mixer are 21+. Alcohol sales are reserved for 21+ across every event. The Hooks event and PACT Theatre performances are not age restricted.
