PRIDE Corpus Christi Receives CDC HIV/STD Testing Grant

PRIDE Corpus Christi has been awarded a ten-month grant from the CDC to expand local access to HIV/STD testing and prevention measures. By applying on our website, residents within the 12-county Coastal Bend region may receive at home test kits via postal mail. Tests for HIV and STDs may be completed discretely and sent into the lab at no cost.

Although HIV affects Americans of all walks of life, it continues to affect segments of the LGBTQIA+ community disproportionately. Advancements in HIV prevention, treatment, and care have put an AIDS-free generation within reach. However, many actions have been taken recently in the State of Texas to reduce access to healthcare for its citizens, directly impacting the wellness of our community. PRIDE Corpus Christi and its sponsors hope to offset these negative consequences through this new initiative.

We encourage those within our community to access local resources such as the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) medications by pharmaceutical manufacturers like Gilead and ViiV Healthcare. PrEP is an HIV prevention strategy that involves taking a once-daily pill (Truvada by Gilead) or an injection once every two months (Apretude by ViiV Healthcare). When taken as prescribed, PrEP is safe and highly effective at preventing people from becoming HIV-positive.

PRIDE Corpus Christi is committed to helping end HIV and STD transmission among our LGBTQIA+ population by assisting them in testing often, treating early, and staying healthy.

Residents of the following counties are eligible for completely free, discrete at home testing kits for HIV and STDs:
