For the third year, Pride Corpus Christi invites you to Faithful Conversations—an evening where faith and the LGBTQ+ community meet not in opposition, but in honest dialogue.
This year, Father Jonathan Wickham of All Saints Episcopal Church poses a deliberately provocative question: what if the verses long used to condemn LGBTQ+ people don’t say what we’ve been told they say? The phrase “man shall not lie with another man” feels ancient and absolute, yet that particular English rendering, and even the word “homosexual,” entered our Bibles only in the mid-20th century. Scripture, it turns out, has a history. Translation is a human act, shaped by the assumptions of its translators.
Join us for a frank, accessible conversation about how the Bible has been read, mistranslated, and reinterpreted across centuries and what it means to encounter scripture as a living text rather than a weapon. Whether you come from a faith tradition, left one, or have never had one, this is a space to ask hard questions in good company.
All are welcome.
Faithful Conversations is a recurring Pride Corpus Christi program. Past evenings have featured clergy from All Saints Episcopal Church, the Unitarian Universalist Church, and St. Paul United Church of Christ.
