Event Details
Pride Corpus Christi is proud to welcome Brigitte Bandit, award-winning drag performer, City of Austin LGBTQ+ Quality of Life Commissioner, and lead plaintiff in the ACLU of Texas’s lawsuit against Senate Bill 12; for an evening of community education and civic engagement at The Hidden Door.
SB12, Texas’s so-called “drag ban,” was recently revived by a federal appeals court, once again putting the rights of LGBTQ+ Texans and the artists who represent us on unstable legal ground. Brigitte’s testimony against the bill in 2023 went viral worldwide, one image of which was named among Time magazine’s Top 100 Photos of the Year, and she has since become one of the most recognized voices for LGBTQ+ advocacy in the state, including as the first drag performer to address the Texas Democratic Convention.
Join us for a candid, forward-looking conversation covering:
- The current status of SB12 and what the latest ruling means for performers, venues, and audiences
- The broader landscape of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation at the state and federal level, including bathroom bills and youth-targeted legislation
- How to get involved, register to vote, and connect with advocacy organizations in the Coastal Bend
- Resources for community members who feel the weight of this moment and want to push back
